What is an Access to Higher Education Diploma course?
The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a qualification designed to meet the needs of learners who have been out of education for 3 years or more, or who may not have the Level 3 qualifications required for admission to Higher Education courses (such as A levels). The qualification is awarded by OCN London, and is overseen by the QAA (Quality Assurance Agency for England and Wales).
Access courses can provide a valuable second chance for learners, as there are no upper-age limits, and no formal entry requirements, though you will need to sit a diagnostic assessment of your literacy and numeracy skills. By the end of the course you should have reached Level 2 in these subjects (GCSE A-C or equivalent).
These courses are intensive and in addition to time spent at the College, further private study and homework is required outside the classroom, so students must be motivated and committed.
